The service of the former organization, the 233d Air Defense Artillery, is indicated by the color red which represents courage, vitality and zeal; gold refers to leadership, achievement and excellence. The razorback hog underscores the unit's motto; the nebuly symbolizes clouds, and the missiles represent the mission of the unit to defend against enemy aircraft and attack.

The coat of arms was originally approved for the 233d Air Defense Artillery on 19 December 1989. It was redesignated for the 233d Regiment, with blazon and symbolism revised, on 31 October 1997.
